Planning a tropical luau party? You’ll want to make these DIY paper Hawaiian necklace leis for your guests to wear and keep as a souvenir!
I love a tropical themed party. Especially a pool party that really feels like you’ve been transported to paradise with everything you’d find in Hawaii.
That’s why I also love these DIY Paper Palm Tree centerpieces and Pineapple Can Koozies. As well as my DIY Tiny Umbrellas for Drinks and these cute felt pineapple plushies.
Together with these Paper Hawaiian Flower Leis, you can make everything you need for a luau at home without having to go to a party store! (Be sure to check out these cute DIY tin can drink holders for outdoors, too!)
P.S. For another fun summer party or get together, you’ll want to see my easy popsicle banner made from sponges.
And you can get all of the SVG files for your tropical luau for free! Just follow the download links in each tutorial.
If you decide that making Hawaiian flower necklaces isn’t for you, don’t worry! There are some really great Hawaiian leis online for super cheap that are already done!
How to Make Paper Hawaiian Necklace Leis with Flowers
Supplies
- Free Hawaiian Flower Lei SVG Files
- Cricut or other cutting machine
- Card stock in tropical colors (8.5 x 11” 65-80 lb)
- Cricut blue or green standard grip mat
- Plain white straws (paper straws are more eco-friendly)
- Jute cord or string
- 1/2 tablespoon
- Scissors
Directions
Step 1
Upload the SVG files to design space. Select the layer with the set of files and hit attach on the layers panel. Afterwards, hit “make it” to cut each set of files as normal.
Step 2
Adjust your material dial or setting to medium card stock. Load the card stock onto the grip mat and hit “Go.”
Step 3
Place each flower and leaf into a 1/2 tablespoon and gently applying pressure. Doing so will slightly round the petals for a more realistic look.
Step 4
Tie a knot on one end of the string and begin to thread each flower and leaf. Mix up the colors to be different along the necklace.
Step 5
Cut the straw into small pieces (about an inch or less, but it’s up to you). You will use these small pieces in- between each flower and leaf set.
Step 6
Add a flower and leaf, then a piece of straw, until you have enough flowers for your lei necklace. Tie a knot to complete the lei and cut off any excess string.
