How to Make a Santa Handprint Gnome
Supplies:
- Free Santa Gnome Hat Template
- Brown paper lunch bags
- Red acrylic paint
- Cardstock (red, pink, and white)
- Circle paper punches (1” and 1.5”), optional
- Scissors
- Glue stick
Directions:
Step 1
Begin by painting the body of a brown paper lunch bag, from under the flap down, with red acrylic paint. Let the paint dry completely.
Step 2
While the paint is drying, trace handprints on white paper or cardstock.
We needed 6 handprints to fill in the beard for our gnomes, but trace and cut out as many as you need or like.
Cut out all the handprints.
Step 3
Use a 1” circle paper punch to punch a circle from pink cardstock for the nose.
Glue the circle in along the fold of the flap of the bag.
Step 4
Print and cut out the Santa gnome hat template. Trace the template on red cardstock and cut out.
You will also need to cut a simple strip of white paper or cardstock for the brim of the hat and use a 1.5” circle paper punch to make a circle of white.
Glue it all together to make the hat.
Step 5
Glue the hat over about half the nose, so just a small sliver of the brown paper bag is visible between the hat and red body of the bag.
Then, begin gluing the handprints in layers from under the flap of the bag down.
Glue enough handprints to fill in the gnome’s long beard.
Helpful Tips
- If you do not have cardstock, you can use craft paper instead.
- Instead of using a craft punch, you can trace circles with the bottom of a measuring cup or small glass. Or just draw circles to cut out.
- If you would like to mix up the colors, green is also a good choice for painting the paper bag or as the hat.
