Felt Ice Skates Craft

This felt ice skate craft is a fun winter project. Using dollar store supplies and a free pattern, make pretty ice skates as a decoration.

Felt ice skates are also great to make for anyone who enjoys the sport. You can turn these into ornaments quite easily by adding a ribbon hanger.

These are especially great crafts to make to celebrate the Winter Olympics, as well.

Most of the supplies were bought at the Dollar Tree.

Cute Felt Ice Skates Craft

Supplies

Free Ice Skate Pattern
Jumbo Craft Sticks
Wooden Snowflakes
White Tinsel Pom Poms
Iridescent Glitter Glue
Acrylic Craft Paint (White, Grey)
Craft Felt (Grey, Blue)
Black Permanent Marker or Sharpie
White Yarn
Hot Glue Gun or Craft Glue

Directions

Step 1

Cut two jumbo craft sticks in half with scissors.

Paint the four half craft sticks and two additional full-size craft sticks with grey acrylic craft paint.

Let dry. Apply a second coat, if needed.

Step 2

Download, print, and cut out the ice skate pattern (the pattern with the heel).

Either attach the pattern to the grey felt and cut around the pattern, or trace the pattern on the felt and cut out.

Step 3

Now cut off the heel part of the same ice skate pattern. See the photo below for reference.

Using the same method as in Step 2, either pin or trace the ice skate boot pattern (the boot without the heel) on the blue felt.

Step 4

Glue the smaller blue felt ice skate boot on top of the grey felt ice skate. Repeat with each skate.

Trim off any excess grey craft felt with scissors.

Step 5

Punch the lacing holes in the pattern and then transfer to the ice skates with a permanent black marker.

Punch the holes out of the felt with a Crop-A-Dile.

Alternatively, you can cut out small holes with very small sharp embroidery scissors.

Step 6

Glue two half craft sticks to the ice skate at the heel as seen in the photo below. Then glue the full-size craft stick horizontally to the two vertical half craft sticks to finish the blades of the ice skate.

Repeat for the second skate.

Step 7

Cut a 48” length of white yarn for each skate.

Wrap the end of the yarn in clear tape to prevent the yarn fraying and make it easier to do the lacing.

Starting at the top of the skate, thread the yarn through all of the holes. At the bottom, thread the yarn through the last hole a second time and then lace back up to the top hole.

Tie the yarn in a bow and trim any long ends with scissors.

Repeat for the second skate.

Step 8

Paint the two wooden snowflakes with white acrylic craft paint. Allow to dry and apply a second coat if needed.

Add visual interest to the snowflakes and ice skate blades with the iridescent glitter glue. I put drops of the glue on the flat skate blade and then spread it in a thin layer.
