Do you have balls of thread in your craft storage that you haven’t used? Or maybe you find some inexpensive thread balls at thrift stores or rummage sales.
These simple balls of thread can be turned into cute rustic pumpkins that have a farmhouse look and vintage vibe.
Thread ball pumpkins are the perfect inexpensive fall decoration for autumn. They are especially cute to decorate a craft room or to add to a mantle or tiered tray.

One of the things that l like best about this autumn decoration is that you can use the thread afterwards in a variety of ways. You don’t have to find storage for the pumpkin ball.
While you may not want to crochet with it, you can use the twine in the garden or kitchen for a variety of uses.
The important thing to remember is that you only want to use cotton thread. Synthetic fibers, such as polyester, will not absorb the paint easily as cotton does.

Instructions
Step 1
Squeeze 1 oz. of bright orange craft paint in a 3 oz. spray bottle, fill with 2 oz. of water. Replace cap and shake until all paint has dissolved into the water.
Repeat with the burnt orange acrylic craft paint in the second spray bottle.
Step 2
Remove any labels from the outside of the thread ball.
Spray the outside of the thread balls with the paint. You can either do one color for each crochet thread ball or layer the different paint colors on each ball.
Set aside the balls of thread to dry. Apply a second coat, if needed.
Step 3
Cut two 12” lengths of wired twine using wire cutters.
Wrap the twine around a pencil, and then slide off to create a pumpkin vine.
Step 4
Download and print the leaf pattern, then cut it out.
Trace the leaf pattern on green felt and cut out two leaves.
To create a dimensional leaf, apply a dot of glue at the base of each leaf and pinch it in half to secure.
Step 5
Glue a champagne cork to the front center of the hole at the top of the thread ball. Hold in place until the glue dries completely.
Fill in the rest of the hole with small amounts of moss.
Glue the wired twine vine and the leaf to the back of the cork stem.
