Crochet Daisy Granny Square

When you combine the happiness of daisies with the classic granny square, you get a daisy granny square!

This tutorial will show you how to make a variation of a granny square with a daisy in the center.

  • Crochet hook (3.5 mm)
  • Scissors

Foundation

Step 1

Round 1 - Step 1 A green crochet hook with a yellow yarn.

Using the yarn color for the center of the crochet sunflower square, make a Magic Ring without cutting the yarn from the bundle.

Round 1 - Step 1.1 A green crochet hook with a yellow yarn.

Work 2 chains.

Step 2

Round 1 - Step 2 A green crochet hook with a yellow yarn.

Work 12 Double Crochets into Magic Ring and close the Magic Ring by pulling the tail.

Round 1 - Step 2.1 A yellow crocheted stitch with a green crochet hook.

Step 3

Round 1 - Step 3 A yellow crocheted circle on a white surface.

Work a Slip Stitch at the top of the 1st Double Crochet of the round to join the round.

Round 2

Foundation

Start with a Slip Knot.

Pull it through a stitch around as shown in the picture.

Chain 3.

Step 2

Round 2 - Step 2 A crocheted lemon with a green crochet hook.

Work a Triple Crochet (Treble Crochet) through the same stitch without pulling through the last 2 loops. Then you should have 2 loops on the hook. 

Step 3

Work another Treble Crochet through the same stitch, without pulling through the last 2 loops. Then you should have 3 loops on the hook.

Step 4

Round 2 - Step 4 A yellow crocheted flower with a green crochet hook.

Yarn over and pull through all 3 loops.

Step 5

Round 2 - Step 5 A crocheted daisy with a green crochet hook.

Chain 3.

Step 6

Round 2 - Step 6 A yellow crocheted flower with a green crochet hook.

Work 3 Treble Crochets together through the very next stitch, without pulling through the last 2 loops of each stitch.

At the end you should have 4 loops on the hook.

Step 7

Round 2 - Step 7 A crocheted partial daisy with a green crochet hook.

Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.

Step 8

Round 2 - Step 8 A yellow crocheted flower with a green crochet hook.

Chain 3.

Step 9

Continue making petals by working 3 Treble Crochets together and chain 3 into each one of the stitches around until the end. 

At the end you will have 12 petals around separated by chain 3 gaps.

Step 10

Round 2 - Step 10 A crocheted daisy on a white surface.

Work a Slip Stitch on to of the 1st petal to join the round.

Pull the loop through one of the chain 3 gaps to join the new color into the flower as shown in the picture.

Work 2 Double Crochets into the same 3 chain stitch gap.

Work 3 Double Crochets into each one of the next 2 chain 3 gaps.

Step 12

Work 3 Treble Crochets, Chain 3 and 3 Treble Crochets into the next chain 3 gap.

Step 13

Round 3 - Step 13 A crocheted square with a daisy on it.

Work 3 Double Crochets into the next chain 3 gap.

Step 14

Round 3 - Step 14 A crocheted square with a daisy in the center.

Work a Slip Stitch to the 3rd Chain from the starting point to join the round, cut the yarn off by leaving a little tail.

Use a tapestry needle to stitch the remaining end of the yarn over and under the pattern on the backside.
