How to Crochet a Pumpkin Granny Square

This free crochet pattern uses beginner crochet stitches. You may want to familiarize yourself with these stitches if you are new to crocheting.
We suggest using a small hook, such as a 2.3 mm crochet hook, but any hook size will work.
Foundation
- Using orange yarn, create a Magic Ring (mr). Do not cut the yarn.
Round 1
- Chain 1, work 16 double crochets (dc) into the mr.
- Pull the tail tight to close the mr and work a Slip stitch into the top of the first dc to join.
Round 2
- Chain 2
- Work 2 dc into each of the 16 stitches around
- Slip stitch into the top of the first dc to join
Round 3
- Chain 1
- Work 1 single crochet (sc) into the same stitch
- Work 1 sc increase in the next stitch

- Work 1 dc in each of the next 14 stitches
- (2 dc, chain 1, 2 dc) into the chain 2 space
- Work 1 dc in each of the next 16 stitches
- (2 dc, chain 1, 2 dc) into the chain 2 space
- Work 1 dc in each of the next 14 stitches
- (2 dc, chain 1, 2 dc) into the chain 2 space
- Work 1 dc in each of the next 7 stitches
- Slip stitch into the top of the first dc to join
Tendril
- Using green yarn, start with a slip knot
- Chain 12
- Skip 2 chains, and work 3 dc in the 3rd stitch
- Work 3 dc in each of the next 9 stitches
- Leave a long tail and cut the yarn
Stem
- Using Brown yarn, chain 6
- Skip 1 chain, and work 1 sc in the 2nd chain from the hook
- Work 1 sc in each of the next 4 stitches
- Leave a long tail and cut the yarn
Joining
- Using a yarn needle, attach the tendril and the stem to the pumpkin. Hide the yarn tails.
