The Bald Eagle is America’s National Bird, a symbol of strength and freedom. The Bald Eagle is found on many American emblems and seals and is an important part of celebrating the Fourth of July and the United States’ Independence Day.
This bald eagle handprint craft is an easy way to add eagle decorations to your home or July 4th party.
From preschool to adult, everyone will have fun creating this patriotic eagle craft.
It is perfect for July Fourth, as well as President’s Day, Veteran’s Day, Memorial Day and even American Eagle Day (June 20).

This keepsake craft is made with handprints, either your own or the free eagle template pattern that we have for you.
While we used craft foam for the pattern pieces glued to the popsicle sticks, you can also use construction paper, colored cardstock, or craft felt, too.
All craft supplies were bought at the Dollar Tree, except for the paint. Many of these supplies can also be used for our other patriotic crafts, including:
How to Make a Eagle Handprint Craft
Materials
- Free Eagle Craft Template
- 5-6 Jumbo Craft Sticks
- Craft Foam (White, Yellow, and Brown)
- 2 Wiggle Eyes
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks or Craft Glue
- Brown Acrylic Craft Paint (I used DecoArt Americana in Dark Chocolate)
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
- Pencil
- Black Marker
Instructions
Step 1
Lay four jumbo craft sticks side by side on the table. Using scissors, cut 1-2 additional craft sticks to fit across the width of the four craft sticks laying side by side.
Glue the cut craft sticks across the four vertical craft sticks near the top and the bottom to stabilize the eagle body.
Step 2
Paint the front of the popsicle stick eagle body with brown paint. Be sure to paint the sides of the sticks with brown paint, too.
Allow to dry. Apply a second coat of paint, if needed.
Step 3
Download and print the eagle craft template. Cut out the patterns.
With a pencil, trace the handprint onto brown craft foam twice. Or trace a child’s hand or your own hand on the brown craft foam.
Trace the beak once and the talons twice onto yellow craft foam.
Trace the eagle’s head onto white craft foam.
Cut out all of the patterns with scissors.
Step 4
Glue the two wiggle eyes to the eagle’s head.
Glue the yellow craft foam beak just under the eyes, with the flat side underneath the eyes and beak pointing downward.
Using a black permanent marker, make two small dots on the top of the nose.
Step 5
Glue the two brown handprint eagle wings to the back of the popsicle sticks body. Have the fingers of the hands pointing outwards from each side.
Step 6
Flip the eagle back over and glue the talons to the bottom with the pointed toes hanging over the popsicle sticks slightly.
