Christmas Tree Ghost Decoration

In October, I am always struggling with the desire to have both Halloween and Christmas decorations out at the same time! And I’m trying to think ahead and get things done before the busy holiday season starts.

Which is why I turned a Christmas tree into a ghost for Halloween decorations and I’m not mad about it!

A person wearing a white sheet with large googly eyes stands inside a lit room, viewed through a window at night.

It’s easy to do.

Just put up your tree in October. This only works for an artificial tree, of course. A real one would never last until December 25.

Then drape a flat white sheet over the top of the faux tree. We used a King size sheet on a 7 foot tall tree.

If you have a much taller tree, you will probably need to use a couple flat sheets.

A large sheet draped to resemble a ghost stands by a sunny window with a ghost reflection. Decorative pumpkins sit on the window ledge.
I obviously didn’t iron my sheet beforehand. I suggest you do iron it to remove wrinkles.

A shorter tree could use a queen size sheet.

Then add eyes.

We bought two huge googly eyes and used the adhesive backing on the back to stick to the sheet.

You could also cut out large eyes and a mouth from black felt or black foam. Use double-sided tape to attach them to the sheet.

If you glued the eyes to the sheet, you couldn’t reuse it for a bed. Which is fine if you want to have a permanent ghost decoration every year. But if you are trying to repurpose a sheet you already own and might use again later, you want something that can be removed.

Hint: Go to thrift stores to find sheets to use!

And that’s it! We put the tree in the window so that it would look out over the Trick-or-treaters. They loved it!

The next day, we removed the sheet and had a jumpstart on Christmas decorating.

Bonus Idea: String white lights on the tree, then put the sheet over the tree. Voila! You will have a glowing ghost!
