If you and your loved one have a favorite song, this is the perfect gift to make for Valentine’s Day. Or, if you are looking for music themed Valentines gifts, this DIY project is simple to make using inexpensive materials.

I used a page of sheet music out of an old hymn book. Thrift stores and antique stores are some great places to find music books.

Or, download a free piece of sheet music from the internet.

This craft can easily be made with thrift store finds and dollar store materials. So it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money to make a very sentimental gift!

How to Make a Valentine Love Song Sign

Supplies

  • Song lyric sheet
  • Wood sign (Large enough for your song sheet and wide enough to sit on top of the candlestick)
  • Wooden heart
  • Wood candlestick
  • Twine
  • Red paint
  • White paint
  • Sandpaper
  • Mod Podge
  • Antiquing wax – Brown or Clear (I used Brown)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Paint brush and foam brush

Instructions

If you are reusing an old sign, make sure to use sandpaper to sand off any decoration or bumps. For instance, on my repurposed sign I had glittery words. I sanded those down for a smooth surface.

Paint the sign with white paint to provide a solid background for the song sheet. You might need more than one coat.

Paint the edges of the sign and the wooden candlestick red.

If you are using brown antique wax for an aged finish, wipe it on the candlestick and edges of the sign to create a weathered look.

Using hot glue, attach the candlestick to the bottom of the sign in the center.

Brush a layer of Mod Podge over the white painted sign. Then lay the music sheet on top and smooth it out, removing any wrinkles in the paper.

If any of the the song sheet hangs over the edges, you can easily sand it off, rather than cutting with scissors. Just use a downward motion with the sand paper and the edges will easily shred off.

Brush another layer of Mod Podge over the top of the song sheet. Allow to dry.

If you want the music to look antiqued, brush some brown antique wax along the edges of the sheet music. Use just a little bit!

Paint the wooden heart red. You can also use some brown antiquing wax on the heart if you’d like.

Tie a tiny twine bow with long strands and hot glue it to the center of the heart.
