This old-fashioned dish towel bunny has been a classic Easter decoration for generations. Whether you buy new towels to give as a gift, or repurpose your existing towels to make holiday decor for your kitchen, this easy DIY Easter craft can be made in 5 minutes or less!

The wonderful thing about this Easter DIY project is that you can mix and match the towel colors and prints to make something unique for everyone. The ears and arms can be different colors, or consider using a dish cloth and washcloths that are all the same print.
Dishcloth rabbits are often made with Dollar Tree or dollar store towels and washcloths.
While I usually prefer thick towels of higher quality, the thinner towels from dollar stores are easier to use with this craft.

A video tutorial can be found at the end of the instructions.
How to Make a Dish Towel Bunny
The floral dish towel I used is from Dollar General. The two white flannel washcloths from Amazon are super soft and I highly recommend them! I bought my ribbon at a thrift store and the faux flowers are part of a stem from Dollar Tree.
Supplies
- Dish Cloth or Tea Towel
- 2 Washcloths
- 3/8 inch Ribbon; four 15″ pieces (38 cm) plus more for a hanger
- Small sprigs of faux flowers
- Rubber bands or hair ties

Directions
Step 1
Remove tags from the dish towel and washcloths.
Fold the dish towel in thirds, if it is not already folded that way.

Step 2
To make the rabbit ears, lay one washcloth diagonally on your work surface.

Fold in the top and the bottom corners towards the middle. Then start rolling the top towards the middle, then roll the bottom towards the middle.

Wrap a rubber band or hair tie around the middle to secure. You could also tie with ribbon or twine, if desired.

Step 3
Fold the dish towel with about 2/3 of the towel in the front and 1/3 of the towel folded in the back.

This does not have to be exact, but the front should be much longer than the back.
Place the wash cloth ears where the fold of the dish cloth is.

The ears should be placed in between the front and the back layers.

Fold the ends of the washcloth up while pulling down the dish cloth. Adjust the towels so that the open gaps in the ears are seen on the front.

Wrap a rubber band around the washcloth bunny ears, just above the dish towel. Alternatively, you could just tie ribbon in a bow to secure.

Step 4
Adjust the dish towel to cover the base of the washcloth ears, wrapping it slightly around to cover the washcloth and pouf it out a little to create a “head.”

Wrap a piece of ribbon around the base of the “head” to tighten and secure. Tie it in a bow.
Alternatively, you could use a rubber band or hair tie to secure, then later cover it with ribbon.

Step 5
To make the rabbit arms, lay the washcloth on your work surface diagonally. Start to roll up the cloth tightly from the bottom corner, rolling until the entire washcloth is rolled up.

Place the washcloth in between the towel layers, just underneath the head.

Tie a ribbon around the dish towel just underneath the arms. Alternatively, you could use a rubber band to secure first, then add a ribbon over the rubber band later.

Step 6
Bring the ends of the arm washcloth to the front of the bunny body.
Wrap ribbon around the ends and tie in a bow. (Helpful Hint: Tie the bow an inch or so up the arm so that you get all of the layers of the washcloth secured.)

Alternatively, you could secure first with a rubber band and then cover with a ribbon.
Step 7
It is time for the finishing details.
I went back to the ears and tied a ribbon over the rubber band on top of the head.

Optional: Add a ribbon loop to the back of the bunny head in order to hang your dish towel rabbit. If you would like to add a hanger, it is easier to do it as you are wrapping ribbon around the top of the head. Slide a piece of ribbon for the hanger underneath the ribbon around the ears before tightening and securing the ribbon and bow below the ears.
Tuck a few small flower stems in between the rabbit body and the arms.

How to Display Your Dish Towel Rabbit
If you choose to add a hanger to the bunny, you can easily hang her from a kitchen cabinet knob or on a wreath hanger. She looks especially great in your kitchen or bathroom.

The rabbit can also be displayed sitting on a shelf or on the counter. I liked sitting her on top of several cookbooks in my kitchen.
A dish cloth rabbit also looks great in a basket, whether it is an Easter basket table centerpiece or giving an Easter basket for adults.

You may also want to add a wooden spoon or other kitchen utensil in the rabbit’s arms to make this a great gift!
