Cross Granny Square Pattern

Our crocheted Cross Granny Square pattern is perfect for Easter, baptisms and christening crochet projects.

Cross Granny Square Crochet Pattern

Step 1:
Start with a Magic Ring

Round 1

Step 1:
Chain 3

Step 2:
Work 2 Double Crochets (dc) in Magic Ring, Chain 2

Step 3:
(3 Double Crochets, Chain 2) * repeat 3 times.

Step 4:
Pull the tail tight to close the Magic Ring. Slip Stitch in 3rd Chain from starting point to join the round.

Round 2

Step 1:
Chain 3.

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 2 stitches.

Step 3:
Work 1 Double Crochet next chain-2 space.

Step 4:
Pull the hook out and insert it to the two loops of the base as shown here.

Step 5:
Pull the Beige yarn through both the loops.

Step 6:
Pull the Orange yarn to take the loop off. 

From here we are working with the Beige yarn over the Orange yarn strap.

Step 7:
Work (1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet) in same chain-2 space.

Step 8:
Repeat Step 4 to Step 6 and join orange yarn back again.

Step 9:
Work 1 Double Crochet in same chain -2 space over the Beige yarn strap.

Step 10:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches.

Step 11:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next chain-2 space and change the color back to Beige.

Step 12:
Work (1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet) in same chain-2 space and change the color back to Orange.

Step 13:
Work 1 Double Crochet in same chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches.

1 Double Crochet in next chain-2 space, and change the color back to Beige. 

Step 14:
Work (1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet) in same chain-2 space, and change the color back to Orange.

Step 15:
Work 1 Double Crochet in same chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches.

1 Double Crochet in next chain-2 space, and change the color back to Beige. 

Step 16:
Work (1 Double Crochet, Chain 2, 1 Double Crochet) in same chain-2 space, and change the color back to Orange.

1 Double Crochet in same chain-2 space in Orange.

Step 17:
Slip Stitch in 3rd chain from starting point to join the round.

Round 3

Step 1:
Chain 3. 

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches, and change the color back to Beige. 

Step 3:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

Step 4:
Work (2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in next stitch and change the color back to Orange.

Step 5:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches and change the color back to Beige.

Step 6:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in next stitch and change the color back to Orange.

Step 7:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches and change the color back to Beige.

Step 8:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in next stitch and change the color back to Orange.

Step 9:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches and change the color back to Beige.

Step 10:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in next stitch and change the color back to Orange.

Step 11:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

Step 12:
Slip Stitch in 3rd chain from starting point to join the round.

Round 4

Step 1:
Chain 3.

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches and change the color back to Beige.

Step 3:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches,

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches and change the color back to Orange.

Step 4:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches, and change the color back to Beige.

Step 5:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches,

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches and change the color back to Orange.

Step 6:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches, and change the color back to Beige.

Step 7:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches,

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches and change the color back to Orange.

Step 8:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches, and change the color back to Beige.

Step 9:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches,

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches and change the color back to Orange.

Step 10:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

Slip Stitch in 3rd chain from starting point to join the round.

Round 5

Step 1:
Chain 3.

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches, and change the color back to Beige.

Step 3:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches.

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

[1 Double Crochet in each of next 15 stitches, (2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space] * repeat pattern 3 times.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 5 stitches and change the color back to Orange.

Step 4:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

Step 5:
Slip Stitch in 3rd Chain from starting point to join the round.

Round 6

Step 1:
Chain 3.

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches, and change the color back to Beige.

Step 3:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 7 stitches

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

[1 Double Crochet in each of next 19 stitches, (2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space] * repeat pattern 3 times.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 7 stitches, and change the color back to Orange.

Step 4:
Work 1 Double Crochet next stitch.

Step 5:
Slip Stitch in 3rd chain from starting point to join the round.

Round 7

Step 1:
Chain 3.

Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 3 stitches, and change the color back to Beige

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 9 stitches

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

[1 Double Crochet in each of next 23 stitches, (2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space] * repeat pattern 3 times.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 9 stitches and change the color back to Orange.

Step 3:
Work 1 Double Crochet in next stitch.

Step 4:
Slip Stitch in 3rd chain from starting point to join the round, and change the color back to Beige

Round 8

Step 1:
Chain 3, Cut the Orange yarn be leaving a little tail.

Step 2:
Work 1 Double Crochet in each of next 14 stitches

(2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space.

[1 Double Crochet in each of next 27 stitches, (2 Double Crochets, Chain 2, 2 Double Crochets) in next chain-2 space] * repeat pattern 3 times.

1 Double Crochet in each of next 11 stitches.

Step 3:
Slip Stitch in 3rd chain from starting point to join the round.

Step 4:
Cut the yarn by leaving a little tail and hide the tails using yarn needle.
