DIY Pickett Bookmark from Fantastic Beasts (with Free Pattern)
Materials
- Free Bowtruckle Pattern
- Two Neon Green Felt Sheets
- Dimensional Fabric Paint (Green, Brown, and White)
- Green Floral Wire
- Pins
- Glue Gun
- Silicone Fingertip Protector, or Toothpick or Bamboo Skewer
- Scissors (both regular and small detail)
Instructions
Step 1
Download and print the free Bowtruckle pattern. Cut out the pattern around the template, but it doesn’t have to be along the lines of the Bowtruckle.
Pin the Pickett Bookmark pattern onto two layers of neon green craft felt with straight pins.
Cut out the Bowtruckle pattern along the edges, cutting through both pieces of felt. Use small pointy detail scissors to cut out the intricate areas.
If it is easier, cut through each piece of felt individually, though it will take more time.
Step 2
Using green floral wire, lay pieces of the wire along the edges of one of the Pickett patterns. Bend into shape as needed.
Glue the wire to the felt with a glue gun. A low temp glue works best with felt.
If desired, use a silicone fingertip protector to gently tap the wire into the glue. Or press the wire into the hot glue using a toothpick or bamboo skewer.
Step 3
Glue the top layer of felt to the bottom with a glue gun and glue sticks. Use glue sparingly and don’t press too hard or else the glue will leave marks in the felt.
Step 4
Using the photo as your guide, apply the brown paint onto the Bowtruckle’s fingers and toes.
Add brown painted details to the Bowtruckle’s leaves at the top of his head, and then draw on the brown eyes.
I used a three dimensional paint (puff paint) for the craft. You can use an acrylic craft paint, if you would like.
Step 5
Outline the Bowtruckle’s body following the lines on the pattern sheet with green dimensional fabric paint.
Add green details to the Bowtruckle’s leaves at the top of his head and then drawn on a green mouth.
To finish the Bowtruckle bookmark, add a small highlight to each eye with white dimensional fabric paint.
Allow paint to dry.
To use as a bookmark, you can bend the arms over the top edge of the page to hold your place in a book.
